Praying Scripture allows God to direct the content of prayer. It opens the heart to praying particular prayers, psalms, teachings and hopes found in the Bible.
Through Praying Scripture we allow God to shape our prayer life through the words of scripture.

| Our Father in heaven, hallowed be
your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not
be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness Even though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil, You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me

First we read from James -- "22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does." Now we form the scripture into our prayer -- Father in heaven, help me not be a listener only. I love your word. I love to read it. I love to hear it. But more than that, I want to do what it says. Too often, I am the man in the mirror -- forgetting who I am and what I'm supposed to look like. I want to gaze intently into your word, your word that gives freedom, and let it transform me -- heart, mind, and soul. I want to be a doer of your word. |
